Hello 2023. What new music might you bring our way?
Well actually 2022 sent us out with a heap-load of genuinely interesting stuff. Just visit the Uncle Ears December Playlist for proof.
The song I returned to again and again in December is my chosen bridge into the new year: “Tonight” by Slow Transits. Everyone I have shared the song with wants to hear more. You can do that by checking out their previous LP while awaiting the new one in 2023.
Further, you can also check out Slow Transits member Super Jack’s solo work. He’s the voice in “Tonight.” Alongside Paul, they are the duo in Slow Transits. Paul also has another project: Tulip.
But back to “Tonight.” It’s a moody slow-builder with a quirky voice-over ending that lasts for over 7 minutes. It’s brilliant.
Why does it work so well? Maybe the keyboard organ intro. Maybe the slow drum beat roll. Maybe the pensive vocals. Or it is all of it together, completely enveloping the listener in mood. Then the electric guitars kick in to push you even deeper. It’s beautifully hesistant ecstasy.
“Oh no. I’m gone. Shot Down. I fall right through the ground. I’m crucified.”
The only clue given on the song’s Bandcamp page: “Revision! Romance!”
Listening over and over is all you need to know. But they did provide some history over on Instagram.
So 2023 begins like it ended, with a continuing journey to explore more of both Slow Transits and Super Jack. Behind the scenes Jack has also recommended Tulip. Maybe let’s all land over here then.
