Uncle Ears 2024 ALBUM OF THE YEAR NOMINEE: “Connect the Dots” by Diamond Day

Full disclosure: Uncle Ears grew up loving the Cocteau Twins.

Diamond Day first got the attention of Uncle Ears with the 2023 single “Come Over Here.” Then on leap day ’24 (February 29, 2024) the Montreal outfit released the LP “Connect the Dots.”

‘Dots’ is playful, beguiling, layered, both uplifting and haunting. Of course the older listeners will instantly hear the influence of the Cocteau Twins.

Diamond Day soars close to heart. Language is a force and they employ both English and French, vocals like rivers through veins. The listener can decide when to decipher and when to dissolve into the atmosphere.

Experimentation leads to fresh sounds. There is a backbone of songcraft spun over and through with style and dreamy conjuring. The half-hour plus zooms by and almost always is followed by a second encore of the entire LP.
