I’ve been following Super Jack since I first heard “Tonight” by Slow Transits. His solo tune “Armageddon” is a favorite. Following ‘Jack’ means being willing, even eager to hear new noises, ironic beats and plenty of street style experimentation.
In January of 2025 Super Jack released the LP “Icemaker.” That collection featured several credited fellow artists. October’s release of “It’s Not Always Rainbows” sees Jack team up with other creators on most of the tracks. As he told me via Instagram message, “(I) was going for something a little different this time around, more collaborative.”

The opening string of tunes invite and ease the listener into Jack’s world, coming in layers of sounds and lilting beats. Reality is sideways. It’s beyond regular time. Slow and bittersweet wins. Playfully murky. Not willing to land long enough to be labeled or defined. “Gotta Think It Over” belies a pensive state. “Why Won’t You Tell Them” is a falsetto daydream. Lowfi hits 50’s soda pop.

Trip-hopping his way through, above and around various styles and musical inspirations is what Super Jack does. More of the same with ‘Rainbows.’ Kudos for the 60’s reverb echo beat on “If You Stay.” How about some rap on “Foam Ears”? How about following that up with the funky thump of “Better Not Jump,” a highlight of the collection. Then he winds down with the soulful crooning of “Love Me.”
Jack’s connections with other artists work well for all involved. ‘Rainbows’ is a moody, sometimes bouncey, ultimately dazzling new step.
