3 Months Later, Still Spinning Addictive Song “Cruise Control” by MOTEL TV

“Cruise Control” by Chicago act MOTEL TV came my way back in July. I instantly liked it, but little did I know it would become one of those slow growers that lurks just outside of day-to-day conciousness, waiting to jump in and fill a spare moment.

It’s the old school 1980’s vibe. The building vocals. The searching tempo. The feeling of being trapped both in and out of time.

“Sometimes I wonder why I tried so hard…” And we are off to some dimly lit apartment in afternoon…or perhaps looking out of a backseat window as the rain hits. “Can we pretend? No longer wrong, no longer right.”

“Cruise Control” doesn’t just sound like it belongs in a different time. It IS a different time.

MOTEL TV’s EP begins with “Cruise Control,” and what an opener. It’s informed by both the fraying dreams of the past and an understanding of the present.

A nominee for space on the soundtrack of being lost in time.
