Neon Country Gothic. It works as well as any other descriptor when talking about “Darker Now” by Manchester duo Bad Luck. The phrase appears on their Instagram page.
“Darker Now” debuted at #35 on the November 27, 2022 UncleEars.com New Music Chart.
Bad Luck’s self-titled EP is now up on Spotify and YouTube. “Darker Now” is the closing track. It’s a haunting ballad that defines not needing to yell to let out a scream.
“Darker now, darker than before” the chorus begins. And something reflecting the dark somehow lifts us into the light. This journey will take us into the depths and leave us with little hope for rescue unless by vocal harmonies or shimmering guitar plucks.

There are soft harmonies built with sharp intent. There are glorious pauses with an admirably plodding pace. The instrumentation is sparse but dynamic. Electric guitar. Reverb.
The dead pause is deadly on the heart. The drama roars at the quietest moment. And then we return to the understated. As always the surface belies the storm beneath.
It’s dark now. But we’ve been seen.
