Shavand Previews Debut LP With Three Singular Singles

LA-based artist Shavand Taghizadeh has shared three singles so far in 2022 ahead of of his upcoming debut album “Worse Than The Last.”

Going by his first name, Shavand has displayed an impressive versatility in all three singles.

“Mexico” (January 2022) is a smooth pop song driven by catchy hooks and laid back but enticing vocals.

I just wanted you to know

I’m headed down to Mexico

For all the times you did me wrong

And I said I’d be forever gone

“We Fall Apart” (March 2022) takes a differernt approach, relying least on guitar riffs to set the tone. It’s contemplative and searching.

Ain’t it sad for you to see

The one you love get up and leave

The one you love has up and walked away

Hand in hand to a place down the way

“A Walk Inside Your Head,” (October 2022) is the one I heard first, and also the darkest. More interesting guitar work and synth dynamics. The vocals again deliver the atmopshere. The inherent drama built into the arrangements of all three songs hits its highest peak here.

Won’t you let me walk inside your head

Let me carry promises away

You don’t ever have to make me feel

Won’t you let me walk inside your head

These three singles do a nice job of showing what Shavand can do. He’s in an alternative pop / rock dreamscape of his own making. His songs are open invitations into singular worlds.

Shavand wrote, recorded and produced “Worse Than The Last One.” Three “teasers” in, this upcoming LP is already on my future must-listen list.

These songs prove that a rolling stone actually gathers quite a bit of moss. They have a haunted quality about them, as if the bumpy relationships and moments of impermanence that their lyrics convey live within the sonic structure of the arrangements and hang around after the last note has rung out and everyone else has left the bar. They tell you that no matter how far and fast you run, the ghosts of your past will run right beside you.
