“For A Minute” by The Death of Pop sounds exactly like it’s supposed to. A layered homage of sounds from the 1980’s with textured harmonies and driving voyeuristic beat.
Throw in a few twinkly synth breaks and it’s pretty close to altpop perfection. Ethereal.

Seemingly ‘the most underrated band in the UK’, since 2013 London based Dream-Pop combo The Death Of Pop, founded by brothers Angus and Oliver James with the recent arrival of Thom James and Amy Hurford, have moulded over the years a sonically enthralling and immersive pop foray with seamless distinctive melodic sensibility, built on creative multifaceted nuances, emotive depth, and genuine soul.

“For A Minute” has a narrative-driven push. It’s a soundtrack for a moving car. Large tree branches and leaves playing with the sun, filtering shadows and mimicking lace. Gone in quickly splashing patterns before they’ve really even arrived. Only your eyes, now toyed with, left to commute the essence of this dream to your overwhelmed brain. It’s only the afternoon.

The latest single from The Death of Pop, entitled “Record High,” is from the upcoming (September 23) EP For A Minute (Bandcamp link.)
Announcing itself with an emotive, burgeoning, rolling synth rumble, “Record High” crosses into guitar riffs before the vocals arrive. It might be later in the day, after the dreamlike drive of “For A Minute.”
“Record High” brings time to reflect and recreate — but just. Because as soon as your surroundings begin to make sense, they suddenly disappear.
“8 brand new tracks that alternate between the warmest of memories and the reality that what’s past is gone and not coming back. it’s a reckoning with where we’ve come from and what’s ahead.”

Brothers Angus James and Oliver James formed The Death Of Pop on the South-Coast of England in 2013. Their home-produced songs reflected the dismal summers and repulsive sea breeze of a forgotten seaside wonderland; recreating these thoughts through a broken mirror of 90’s shoegaze, 80’s new wave, paisley underground and sunshine pop.
