Gothenburg, Sweden self-described “Post-Punk” band Beverly Kills will drop their debut LP “Kaleido” at the end of September. They’ve released three singles thus far, the third being the hypnotic track “Fantasia.”
Just like Brotherkenzie’s “Overgiver,” (review here) “Fantasia” makes its mark for its musical prowess and driving, hook-melded synth and guitar work. Beverly Kills signals to us in the tune that we are going on a ride. It is indeed a new wave trip.
Sometimes I fantasize about
The silliest of things
Fist fighting gangsters
Punching faster and faster
I take them down once and for all
I aim to harmWon’t hesitate

To even it out, even it out
Won’t hesitate
And I’m out now

“Kaleido” is the debut album of Swedish post-punk act Beverly Kills. The result of a creative process permeated by the pandemic, canceled tours, and a mindset where they put aside their previous frames of reference. It’s scattered, it’s uniform, it’s like looking through a kaleidoscope that reveals the pure essence of Beverly Kills.

“Fantasia” doesn’t let go. It’s one of those searching, forward leaning, driving at night soundtrack anthems that captures a voyeuristic nuance.
Street lights flickering against car windows. Risks being taken. Adrenaline spikes. Sudden bittersweet realizations that this could be all there is.
