English singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist / producer RJ Thompson has delivered a series of singles ahead of the release of his LP “Yearbook” in October. The songs highlight Thompson’s storytelling ability and musical versatility. There are echoes of inspiration from throughout the rock era — a present day ‘retro magic’ infuses and drives the tunes.

Dubbed ‘Synth Springsteen’ by the UK media and influenced by the likes of Beck, Brandon Flowers and Bleachers, RJ Thompson’s artistry merges brilliant storytelling with a signature nostalgic sound.

“Your Money or Your Life” and “Super 8″ conjure echoes of 1980’s Peter Gabriel. “Feel Alive” harkens to Springsteen. “Rescue You” would fit on a Thomas Dolby spectrum.
In 2022 storytelling, rock and roll, and what used to be “mainstream pop” or “New Wave” in the 1980’s are now on the outer perimeter of the music world. They still exist in part due to artists like Thompson, moved to express themselves out of inspiration from previous eras, creating something bright and new for the here and now.

Starting his journey in the backstreet pubs and clubs of his native North-East, having taken up the drums aged six and self-taught guitar and piano later on, RJ has gone on to perform all over Europe, including as support for musical legend Jools Holland on multiple tours, performing at venues including the Royal Albert Hall.
