Brotherkenzie’s “OVERGIVER” Creates Sparkling, Crackling Clamor Pop

The hooks in Brotherkenzie’s addictive tune “OVERGIVER” come from sparkling synthesizer pings and crackling guitar riffs. The chorus plays the role of narrator / observer to a full wall of sound. The composition is completely satisfying even as the lyrics portray the back and forth of an underwhelming relationship.

It’s all delicious harmonious clamor. Clamor Pop, anyone?

“OVERGIVER” is sonically dense and full of playful instrumental moments that reveal new layers. It is just the right kind of eclectic pop, performing well above standard but not willing to take itself too seriously. It’s a tightrope act to pull off. A heaping spoonful of casual cool makes the perk go down nicely.

Brotherkenzie is the newest project from Nathan Stocker (Hippo Campus.)

Brotherkenzie is the solo output from Minneapolis producer and songwriter Nathan Stocker –and, through the project, lives in the shadows, operating on the outskirts of the music industry, something he’s grown increasingly less interested in as he ages. Brotherkenzie’s music is a chasm carved from honesty and earnestness, the result teetering between catchiness and pop, but with sharp edges.
