Coach Kit (Orlando, Florida) wants to give second chances in the tune “Tough Guys,” but some people just can’t take a hint. They fall into “your on worst enemy” territory. In that case it’s time to lower the boom with jangle pop that puts the offenders in their place. Coach Kit’s on the case.
I didn’t want to be unkind
Or pick a fightI didn’t want to hold a grudge
Or hold back love, butThere go all of your manners

I can’t pick up the slack now
You would settle the score for peace of mind
There’s a light sarcastic twang in the lead vocals of Kat Albanese. Is the word I am looking for “smoky?” It’s something from a lilting 1940’s style, but surrounded by 1960’s guitar jangle. Eras merge and blend into a sound that seems to glide out of an old radio speaker. It all works to convey a sweet letdown for the tough guys. Or at least a kind redirection.

You can’t control what the other people are going to say or do, but you can at least set limits and respect yourself.
Coach Kit shares that lesson in “Tough Guys.” In 2:38 they make their case go down as easy as maple syrup and melting butter. Something tells me the tough guys aren’t likely to get the message.
