Dublin’s Kynsy Welcomes You To A Funky, Sarcastic “New Year”

I first noticed Dublin act Kynsy with her 2021 release Elephant In The Room (video link.) She’s keeping her groove in 2022 with the funky, sarcastic new anti-party party song “New Year.”

Dublin artist Ciara Lindsey has released a great new single called ‘New Year’, the follow up to 2021 song ‘Mr Nice Guy’, which was nominated for the Choice Music Prize song of the year.

The song is built on a bouncy synth line, and Lindsey said the song as the title suggests, was written on New Year’s Eve.

“New Year” is just as enigmatic as its creator and performer. Kynsy (Ciara Lindsey, link) is a recluse by nature who bursts out on stage. The song suggests that New Year’s Eve parties are something like that. A time when after a few drinks and close to midnight people lose their inhibitions and turn into something else.

The backing instrumentation on the song fits perfectly with Kynsy’s observant lyrics and outsider viewpoint. Her voice hits instantly in a raspy mood that drives along with the beat.

First Ireland, Then The World

Kynsy is gaining fans and winning over critics with her dynamic writing style and polished delivery.

Following last year’s release of debut EP Things That Don’t Exist and acclaimed singles ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ and ‘New Year’, the BIMM Dublin graduate is poised for a major breakthrough on these shores and beyond.

New Year by Kynsy (Lyrics)

There’s a place where all the people lie
A thousand times in false pride
And they can say it if you ask them to
They will tell you to if you want them to

And I can be there in my own big house
In my own big life, such a pretty lie
And I will be there if I wanted to
And I know I will be
And I can be there if I wanted to
And I know I will be

In the new year, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
New year, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
New year, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
New yеar, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

She’s in the corner with hеr eyes half mast
Lies about her past when the strangers ask
She’s in the basement dancin’ with the suits
Pressin’ kisses all over their dirty views

‘Cause she’s a winner, yeah, she’s a holy mess
She lets the Harolds in just to kill the stress
She wants a refund on this big, big life
Give her somethin’ real, give her somethin’ nice to get to the

New year, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
New year, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
New year, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
New year, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

I don’t wanna talk to you
If I don’t feel the same
Sentimental characters
Come crashin’ through my brain
I don’t wanna talk to you
If I don’t feel the same
Sentimental characters
Come crashin’ through my brain
