A Year On, “This Train” Keeps Rolling For Opus Kink

Opus Kink is tabbed by some to “make it big.” If they do, they will be bringing a diverse, angry, playful, skeptical, rollicking sound to more of the planet.

The first time I listened to “This Train” (released June 2021) I immediately noticed the horns, the energy, the drama infused in changing tempos. Then there is the anger and desperation in the lyrics.

A frantic, pounding rhythm lifts the song from the first second, paired with paranoia-inducing voices that sweep the soundscape as the tension builds up with all the grace and subtlety of a bloody great locomotive.

Sharp, assertive, angry, fast-moving indie post-punk with a dash of The Clash, LCD Soundsystem, Pigbag and a vibrant brass section make up this latest single by the dynamic Brighton band and produced by Tim Burgess of The Charlatans.
