The Lasting Power and Persuasion Of Dream Dali’s “Feel The Hole”

I first heard Dream Dali’s “Feel The Hole” in December 2021 when it made its debut on the band’s YouTube channel. Since then I have listened to it just about every day and sometimes more than once at a time. It has a power and a hypnotic persuasion that pulls me into a place both familiar and at the same time dangerous. I follow the beat and get lost in the layers. The mystery mounts, the drama builds, then explodes against a wall of screeching guitars.

I reached out to the band’s Facebook page and they were kind enough to send me the lyrics to the song.

Feel The Hole / Dream Dali

All they say, all they want

They’re sucking creatures

Dirty teachers speaking lost

All my friends, played pretend

They’re fucking leeches

And I’m pleased now that their gone.

Gone, you’re dead

My heart repairs

See your soul has gone

Feel the hole.

You’ll feel the lonely

Just be alone here

In a bit of time you’ll understand the reasons why

I needed helping

But I’ve seen the truth here

Now I’ve gotta go to other places leading high

I’m free, I’m love. You lost a friend faking, gazing, incest, piece of me is gone

I’m free, I’m love. You lost a friend faking, gazing, incest, piece of me is gone

See your soul has gone

Feel the hole

Free, you’ve sold your heart,

Feel the Hole.

Ultimately the song reveals itself as a pondering on the duality of moving on. You might eventually be better for leaving toxic people behind, but don’t deny that you’ll also “Feel The Hole” after they’ve gone. As for the toxic ones, if their hearts have been sold — then they have even bigger holes to feel…and fill.

What pulls me back in for listens time and time again? I don’t feel betrayed by friends. But I am caught just like the rest of humanity in a spider web of give and take, in a daily kaleidoscope of twirling, shifting black, white and gray. With or without the accompanying video, “Feel The Hole” reminds me that this is the true nature of being while here on Earth.

Then there’s the music itself, an immersive soundscape with slightly distant vocals. Somehow not belonging to any distinct era, but bringing up echoes of the 80’s and 90’s. “Feel The Hole” feels like the turning towards a new direction for Dream Dali. Being seduced into their black and white world is inevitable.

Sounds From A Black Hole

In Spring 2022 NASA released captured sounds from a black hole. It’s a strange twist that the “noises” could fit easily into the background of Dream Dali’s song. Are we all feeling it yet?

About Dream Dali

Australian based artist Dream Dali present an intoxicating blend of reverbed guitars, droning synths and strikingly hypnotic drums that unearths a modern fusion in dark-wave psychedelia. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Liquid Liquid, The Doors and The Cure, a claimed darkness permits the exploration of alluring melodies and latent ideas.

Realizing their surrealist dreams, the band creates a visual and sonic experience through synchronized projections of Dadaist movies blended with black and white imagery from the 1930s. Their multi-sensory performance has been described as trance inducing and an experience in surrealism.

Following their recently released EP titled ‘Life in Legato’ and appearance at locally commemorated venue, The Princess Theatre the band continue to support live shows and work on their debut album set to be released in 2022.
